Where is the Love…for Ourselves?

February 14, 2012

Happy Valentine’s Day! First up on the agenda for today is to announce Dine, Dash, and Deadlift’s Valentine this year….and by that I mean the winner of my Endangered Species Chocolates Giveaway. The response I got to this review and contest was overwhelming. Apparently there are a lot of other chocolate lovers out there! Thank you all for entering and a huge thanks to Endangered Species Chocolates for providing some chocolate for the winner! So without further delay, the winner is…… Jess, who wrote: “I’ve never tried Endangered Species chocolate before, but I’ve heard of it on a few occasions. I love that they have a good variety of ‘real” dark flavors (a lot of chocolates claim to be dark but usually have a low cocoa content) and would love to give these a go!”

Congratulations Jess. Check your email for a message from me asking for your mailing address!

Up next, since today is a holiday (even if a fake, ”Hallmark created one”) all about love, I felt it is important to talk about showing a little love to ourselves. Earlier this month I wrote a post for the iRunnerBlog about Disordered Eating and Body Dissatisfaction in runners. However, most people, not just runners may struggle with these issues. So in honor of Valentine’s Day  I want each of you to give yourself a present. Some gift ideas to show yourself some love include: a professional massage, bags of ice so you can create your own ice bath at home, or a new cookbook so that you create nourishing, healthy meals to fuel your active lifestyle.

What strategies do you use to cope with the little voice in your head that can pop up and tell you are not thin enough, muscular enough, etc? What present will you give yourself this Valentine’s Day?

We are our own worst critics aren’t we…and can be our own worst enemy at times. Its a positive though process, embracing the body we have…working on positive changes with a great support system…one day at a time.
I did have some nice healthy indulgences at work today…was a very nice treat!
LOVE YOUR BODY!!!!! I LOVE IT!! Big hug to self!!!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!! Now you have me craving a massage! My body is so messed up right now from this tail bone injury that a massage would be divine. Great idea!!!
